The Power of "Why"
This blog is about my Mom and her recent journey on walking everyday. And I am super proud of her commitment to her goal! Even though this is about my Mom’s walking journey, I believe this can be useful for any person with any health & fitness goal.
She first focused on her “Why”; why does she get up early and go for a walk everyday. Her goals are:
stay healthy
alleviate joint pain
improve mental health
15-20 minutes (minimum) of personal time
Here are some tips from my Mom to get you started and stay on it:
Find your “Why”; this will keep you on the path when those hard days come up
Be Reasonable
Start small; a little goes a long way.
Focus on consistency rather than intensity
Prioritize
Set your alarm the night before and commit to it
Schedule it in your calendar; lock it in!
Make it easy to go
Get your clothes & shoes ready the night before
Eliminate any extra time
Track your progress
Choose a way to track your progress, whether that is writing it down in a notebook or use one of the MANY apps (ie Strava or Runkeeper, etc)
This will help to keep you motivated and see that your hard work is paying off!
Warm-up, warm-up, warm-up:
Do a proper warm-up before starting; stretch and dynamic. This will prepare your body and mind
Reflect
Take some time to reflect on how far you have come and be proud of it!
